Bryan J. Niehaus, JD, CHC, is a Senior Consultant with Murer Consultants, Inc. Mr. Niehaus received his Juris Doctor degree from the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois, where he earned a Certificate in Business Law and was member of the Business and Corporate Law Society. Prior to attending law school, he received his undergraduate degree in History from the University of Michigan. Mr. Niehaus is also Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) through the Compliance Certification Board (CCB).
Since joining Murer, Mr. Niehaus has focused upon regulatory compliance issues for physician groups, acute care and specialty hospitals, multi-hospital complex healthcare systems, and academic medical centers.. This work includes ensuring optimum compliance with a wide range of federal, state and local regulations integral to the development and operation of healthcare providers.
Mr. Niehaus conducts comprehensive compliance audits for providers, including audits addressing compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs), The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation standards, state licensing regulations, billing and reimbursement requirements, fraud and abuse regulations, and Medicare provider-based status regulations.
Mr. Niehaus has significant experience in successfully drafting, submitting, and receiving approval for Certificate of Need (CON) applications on behalf a variety of providers in Michigan, Illinois and throughout the United States. Mr. Niehaus’s CON work includes conducting strategic analyses evaluating the likelihood of CON approval and addressing ongoing compliance concerns related to CON regulations.
Mr. Niehaus also works with senior leadership to analyze and achieve provider goals for new development. This work includes preparing in-depth feasibility and strategy recommendations, incorporating financial, regulatory, and operational considerations. Mr. Niehaus frequently advises on strategy for increasing ambulatory service networks, via utilization of hospital provider-based status, freestanding emergency departments, urgent care centers, and other care facilities. Mr. Niehaus has worked on the development of new hospital and ambulatory care entities in a variety of jurisdictions, in including Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, and Colorado.
Prior to joining Murer Consultants, Inc., Mr. Niehaus worked in Chicago as a regulatory compliance officer enforcing security laws and regulations on the option exchange markets for the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
