Alyssa serves as the director of business development for Murer Consultants, Inc. Her position with Murer allows her to utilize many of the skills she gained during her career as the founder of a content marketing firm, college professor and newspaper reporter.
She has managed crisis communication initiatives for numerous organizations and also planned and implemented comprehensive communication plans for public and private organizations.
She holds a PhD in interdisciplinary studies, a master’s in English and spent 15 years as a professor and director of journalism at Youngstown State University.
Prior to joining the university, she had been an investigative reporter and won some of the top national awards for journalism, including several investigations into health and environmental issues.
She has won some of the most prestigious awards in journalism, including two national Scripps-Howard reporting awards and the Associated Press Managing Editor’s highest honor for investigative reporting.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She is a volunteer with several non-profits and has held seats on the boards of numerous philanthropic organizations.
